Clothing kids love: Basics and trends to create their unique look and dream wardrobe
Creating your kid’s look and dream wardrobe is easy (and super fun) when you stick to a few basic rules and steps. But there’s so much variety in kids’ clothes that it can feel a bit overwhelming at first. And with clothing trends and fashions constantly changing, how in the world is a kid to keep up?
Step 1: Start with the basics
Some things are timeless, even when it comes to fashion and kid’s clothes. Style starts with the staples, and these should form the base of any wardrobe no matter what season it is. If you invest in these pieces first, it’s much easier to build on your kids look from there:
Basic shorts/pants - You can’t go wrong with denim or a neutral color
Plain tees - Choose colors or neutrals so they’re easy to mix and match
Outerwear/coats - Get at least one cozy jacket that works with both casual and dress clothes
Accessories - Choose comfortable, versatile shoes, and functional accessories like hats and belts
Once you’ve got the staples, you can expand their wardrobe to include some interesting and trendy pieces! And that brings us to the next step...
Step 2: Explore what’s trending in girls’ and boys’ clothes
Here at kidpik, we’re excited to be your go-to for kids clothes! Our amazing stylists are always on the lookout for new trends, colors, styles, and outfit inspiration.
Their top tips? Take your cues from fashion icons and see how this translates down to clothing. You’ll spot trends in shapes, patterns, colors, textures, themes, and other elements. But that doesn’t mean your kid has to follow the crowd. Consider what fits his or her style and personality, then let them set their own trends if they want to!
Step 3: Pull it all together to create your outfits
Now that you’ve got your kid’s staples and trendy pieces, it’s time to create their looks.
Girls’ and boys’ clothes come in so many shapes, sizes, and styles… so you’ll have fun creating different looks from the same pieces. For example: try mixing colors, blending patterns, and adding different textures. Come up with at least one look for each occasion or event you can think of in the near future, like…
Sporty outfits for active and outdoorsy kids
Casual, everyday outfits for visiting the library or doing homework (the classic look is always in style!)
Confidence-building outfits (perfect for recitals or giving presentations at school)
Stylist party and holiday outfits
Above all else, let your kid’s personal style shine through - it’s all about them!
… and keep up with the changes
When it comes to fashion, there are always new trends and styles to get excited about. And of course, style will evolve over time too (they won’t always want to wear little kids clothes!). As they build their wardrobe, keep the above tips in mind and they will be trend-forward and confident with every outfit they wear.
