Closet Organization For Kids

This is the perfect time to clean out and reorganize your closet.

Is your son's closet a mess of clothes and toy storage?

Does your daughter's closet look like the inside of a laundry basket?

Are stuffed animals everywhere?

We're here to make it a bit easier for you by sharing some of our top kid's closet organization tips!

No matter what size or closet design you have, our closet system is sure to help keep your or your child's closet neat and organized.

Here are our top tips:

Start by cleaning out your child's closet. Create a designated spot on the floor for a donation pile.

Place any items that no longer fit, haven't been worn in over a year, or you no longer like in this pile.

We recommend passing these items on to a younger sibling, friend, or donate to a child in need. Getting rid of old clothing is the best way to create more storage space.

Once you've narrowed it down to the items that you’re keeping, separate the clothing into piles based on where you will store them.

This will make it quicker to put the items away. Create a separate pile for hanging clothes, dresser drawers, and storage bins.

Our favorite way to organize our closet is by style and then by color. Separate each pile by style and then by color from light to dark.

This makes it easier and quicker in the morning to find what you need and coordinate your outfits by color. This is a great time to include your kid and have them help sort their clothes.

Now it's time to put everything back in. Spring cleaning is the best time to update your closet with new accessories.

The best closet organization system is one that uses things like bins and shoe racks to help keep everything neat and in its proper place.

Here at kidpik, we're always looking for new ways to maximize closet storage. We love folding things like jeans and sweaters and keeping them in storage bins. These bins come in all different colors, so choose your kid's favorite and stack them on your shelves.

We know that shoes tend to end up everywhere. To combat that, we love a shoe rack. If you don't have the floor space for it, try using an over-the-door shoe organizer. This is a neat and tidy way to see your entire shoe collection at once.

We think closets always look neater when you have matching hangers. We're big fans of these velvet ones. The velvet stops the clothing from slipping off the hanger!

A day of cleaning and organization doesn't always sound like the best time, but we have some tips to help make the day enjoyable!

  • Put on a fun playlist or favorite movie for some background noise

  • Have a fashion show! Sometimes it's hard to tell if a piece still fits just by looking at it. Recruit the kids, and have a fashion show. This way you'll be able to see exactly how it fits. We do recommend getting rid of some items you think they might want to hold on to first!

  • Get the kids involved. It may be easier to do the clean out portion on your own, but have the kids help put things away. Make it a game and see who can put everything away the neatest and the quickest.
